Lineage Plasticity in Childhood Leukemia: Single-Cell and Computational Approaches
Postdoctoral position
Location: CLIP research group, Second Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and University Hospital Motol, Prague, Czech Republic
Duration: 24 months (full-time)
Start Date: November 2025-January 2026 (see call timeline here)
Financing: CHARLESTON Programme
Application deadline: 30. 4. 2025
Supervisors: dr. Jan Stuchlý (@email), prof. Eva Froňková
Project Overview:
This project aims to unravel the mechanisms of lineage plasticity in childhood leukemia by integrating advanced single-cell multiomics and computational modeling approaches. The postdoctoral fellow will develop and apply computational frameworks to identify and validate key regulatory dynamics driving leukemic cell fate transitions using the data from state-of-the-art single-cell methods
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct mathematical and computational research to design novel algorithms and tools for single-cell data analysis.
- Develop and implement methods for modeling the dynamics of lineage plasticity in childhood leukemia using spectral and mass cytometry and single-cell RNA sequencing data.
- Validate computational tools in collaboration with experimental and clinical researchers.
- Publish results in high-impact journals and present findings at international conferences.
Candidate Profile:
- A Ph.D. degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, mathematics, biomedical sciences, or related disciplines.
- Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R); familiarity with machine learning or AI techniques is an advantage.
- A keen interest in interdisciplinary research and the ability to integrate computational and biological perspectives.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Enthusiasm for teamwork in a collaborative, international research environment.
Charleston Eligibility Rules:
- Applicants must not be Charles University employees as of the call closing date (May 31, 2025).
- Applicants must have not resided in the Czech Republic for more than 12 months in the past 36 months.
- Applicants must have successfully defended their doctoral thesis by the call closing date (May 31, 2025), but do not necessarily need to have been awarded the PhD degree at that time.
- Applicants must be no more than 8 years post-award of their (first) doctoral degree. This limit may be extended for the following reasons: maternity leave, paternity leave, compulsory national service, time spent outside of research, long-term sick leave, seeking asylum, natural disasters, or clinical training.
About the CLIP research group:
We are a diagnostic and translational research group with a focus on pediatric leukemia, rooted in multiple international consortia, with cutting-edge genomic and cytometry facilities.
Application Process:
Send your application, including your CV and references, to @email. After an initial agreement on collaboration, the candidate and supervisors will jointly submit an application for Charleston funding. See the CHARLESTON Call for details.
