6th International Conference on WT1 in Human Neoplasia alias プラハの退屈

This year’s international meeting on Wilms‘ Tumour Gene 1 (WT1) was held in Kyoto, Japan. This gene is one of the favourite subjects of research in our lab because of its possible use for an observation of minimal residual desease in patients with acute myeloid laeukemia.

At this conference, we held two presentations on WT1. The first presentation opening the conference increased the awareness of a WT1 importance in other kinds of tumours, such as testicular germinal tumours. The second presentation, as usually, was related to laeukemias. We showed our comprehensive results of a project focused on a role of WT1 isoforms in laeukemogenesis.

As always, our Japanese colleagues surprised us with how creative and detailed their organization of the conference was. For example, the design of the mascots, Maiko dance show or absolutely perfect and precize positions of students holding the sings „WT1 Conference“ and lining all the way from the subway station to the conference hall. You don’t get the chance to see this anywhere else :-)

Due to the conference location we got the chance to feel the atmosphere of the Japanese fall season – from both the cultural and gourmet point of view. Finally, we successfully coped with often missing English signs, sometimes unusual contents of our dining plates and a jet lag :-)

To summarize this Japanese mission, Jan Trka and Karolina Kramarzova succeeded as the representatives of CLIP :-)
